Phlebologist: My opinion is that you want to go to someone that treats a lot of varicose veins. You can look for a board certified phlebologist.

See vein specialist: You want to see a vein specialist. That could be a general or vascular surgeon, an interventional radiologist, or a phlebologist. Go to www. Phlebology.Org and put in zip code to find qualified phlebologist in your area.

Vein Specialist: In 2008 the am. Board of phlebology began certifying physicians who passed their vigorous board exam as diplomates of the am. Board of phlebology indicating that these physicians were considered experts in the field of phlebology(vein treatment). Although varicose veins can be treated by many different types of physicians, i would recommend that you see member of the am. Board of phlebology.

Vascular Surgeon: Seek a board-certified vascular surgeon, the most trained vein specialist. Vascular surgeons have typically undergone 7 years of residency & fellowship training in evaluation & treatment of vein diseases & they are the only specialty that is board-certified in veins by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Others doctors tend to have much less formal medical / surgery training in leg veins.
