Yes: Several viruses can cause croup which is inflammation of the upper windpipe. This leads to narrowing of the airway and the characteristic barky cough, hoarse voice, and even labored breathing (sounding a little bit like darth vader). The lungs should sound crystal clear.

Yes: Croup or laryngotracheobroncitis is upper airway problem with obstruction of air movement causing stridor and related to viral infection. Lungs are not usually involved. However lower airway disease so called bronchiolitis with overaeration can occur at same time.Sometimes aspiration can occur with croup causing associated pneumonitis.
