Yes: And when properly mixed amalgam is a fine restorative material. I have many amalgams in my own mouth and if you check the research online you will find the same. Beware of anyone trying you to convince you to remove your amalgams because they are detrimental to your health. They will point to their "research" but the vast info from ada support the use of amalgam.

Yes: There are basically 2 types of materials that we can mold right away to fill a cavity; mercury-silver amalgam and bonded composite (tooth colored-plastic). When used properly, i think they both still have their place and scientific evidence seems to agree. There are times when a big composite isn't strong enough. Amalgam can be an economical temporary alternative when a crown can't be done.
