Dating and viability: The early OB ultrasound serves to date the pregnancy and verify that a viable embryo (or multiple embryos) is/are present. This is usually done by both transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.

Lots of information!: The viability scan at 6 weeks will give you and your provider a wealth of information that will be crucial for pregnancy management down the road. First off, accurate pregnancy dating; secondly location/number of pregnancy sac(s); thirdly cardiac activity of the embryo; lastly any uterine anomalies or pelvic masses that you may have should be detected. Take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily and best of luck.
