Too complex to say: Tpn is for treating people who can't use gut. It can be associated with its own set of problems, including liver chemistry abnormalities. However, what is the underlying cause for your sister's liver trouble? Tpn is supportive care. If her gut can work, then tube feeding is preferred-safer, more "natural", fewer complications, less expensive.

Transplant option: If the liver is failing from cirrhosis, the only real option is liver transplant. The intestine function should recover after transplant unless there is underlying intestine pathology. Given the high bilirubin, i would recommend a liver transplant center with a short wait list time such as indiana or mayo jacksonville. Colorado has a very long waitlist. You may have to call on your own.
