Hip Pain: If you are having pain in the side of your buttock while lying on your side it is probably greater trochanteric bursitis. If you can take antiinflammatories you can take them for 5-7 days on a regular basis. If this does not improve or take it away a cortisone injection may help a great deal.

See below: It could be trochanteric bursitis.---see your doctor to confirm as a corticosteriod injection at the site can relieve the pain.
