Yes: Overall, yes. Blood volume in pregnancy increases significantly, and the heart needs to work more to pump it. Fortunately, the cardiovascular system adjusts very well to this greater demand and most women don't develop heart issues while pregnant. Women with previous heart disease, however, are at higher risk; there are also some rare but serious pregnancy-associated cardiac complications.
