Not without consent: Smart lipo is not any smarter than traditional lipo. It is a brand name for laser destruction of fat and there are many other manufacturers of this technology. It seems to be constantly changing and the currrent model is not the same as the earlier model, meaning that the claims of yesterday are still being made today but with a different machine. This is generally not recommended for minors.

That depends: I agree with dr placik that smart lipo has not advantages over tumescent lipo, in fact the opposite is true. If a minor realizes the flaws of their body and you as a parent agree. If a plastic surgeon agrees with your assessment and who says that only through lipo correction can be achieved, then i would have the minor undergo the procedure, if over 16 yo and mature in nature.

YES: It is permitted for a minor to have an elective and cosmetic surgery with parental consent. It happens frequently with rhinoplasty and rarely with other cosmetic procedures such as liposuction. It is important to make sure both the parents and the child know that this is procedure is for minor body sculpting of an area that failed to respond to diet an exercise.

Shouldn't: Cosmetic procedures at that young of an age have ethical considerations that must be considered. Now is the time to encourage healthy lifestyle choices in your child. Liposuction is not a quick fix and as a surgical procedure, carries certain risks.

Generally not: Because it is an elective procedure and because the adolescent's body is not fully developed it is generally not recommended to perform smart lipo on minors.
