What is hand, foot and mouth disease?

Fever/spots/pain: Hfm is a viral gut infection. Some kids can have it & run a brief temperature & never show other symptoms. Some have fever, localized spots on their wrists & nothing else. Some have terrible mouth sores, spots on wrists/forearms/legs feet & around the bottom & have cramping & loose stools. So fever, loose stools &cramps, amount & location of blisters seem to be the main variables.

Viral infection: Hand/foot/mouth disease is a viral illness usually caused by a virus called coxsackie virus. The body will usually fight this off on its own. Insure plenty of rest and fluids. The illness spreads by person-to-person contact through nasal secretions or throat discharge, saliva, fluid from blisters, stool, and respiratory droplets sprayed into the air after a cough or sneeze. Go see your doctor.
