It is a virus: Hand foot and mouth is a virus and resolves on its own. Go for a visit if he has fever that is getting worse or is miserable. Sometimes a child can get a secondary problem like an ear infection. If he is eating well and doing ok you can watch him at home. There is a homeopathic remedy that works well for me in hand-foot- mouth. It is pulsatilla.
