Rest, ice, ibuprofen: For mild to moderate hamstring pulls, be sure to rest, ice initially after injury, take something like Ibuprofen for a few days. Early movement and stretching of the leg is good (gentle flexion/extension of the knee up to the point where it starts to hurt - this is not the time to "push it". ) i like to give about 2-3 weeks, and if still no improvement, see your physican who can recommend pt.

Gradually: Recommendations vary, and there is little comparison of outcomes of different methods. Common rehab recommendations include multi-directional movements, increasing trunk stability, agility training, hamstring resistance training, and careful stationary stretching.
