A member asked:

What are long-term complications of traumatic injury to the lungs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Most heal completely: Most injuries to the lungs heal with very little after effect. In a few cases where there has been blood in the chest cavity ( hemothorax), scarring can occur that limits lung function. This causes shortness of breath and fatigue with exertion that did not previously cause problems. If this is the case, see a chest surgeon for evaluation.
