Chest pain: Heart related pain is generally a pressure as if someone is sitting on your chest and may radiate to the jaw, neck or arm. Many types of pain may be mistaken for heart pain. If this pain is persistent, is growing more severe, is associated with palpitations and/or shortness of breath, you should be evaluated.

Needs evaluation: Severe anxiety can lead to chest pain, and the pain from a heart attack is usually not "knife-like" - but there are other causes of knife-like chest pain that are serious. If this pain doesn't go away quickly, of you feel short of breath, have palpitations, or feel nauseated or sweaty, you should go the emergency department for immediate evaluation. Otherwise see your doctor soon.
