45-50 but...: The traditional session up to end of 2012 is coded as a 45-50 minute session. It's long tradition inspired the phrase and maybe a book "the fifty minute hour". However, cms which controls medicare and the folks that bring you cpt codes implement 2013 codes for a true 60 minute hour and a code for simply a 45 minute therapy hour. Unsure if that is less health care for more or not. Gotta love it.

Most psychologist: Have 50 minute sessions. This practice began with Freud who had 10 minutes between sessions so that clients would not see one another in the waiting room.
