Range of Motion: Performing range of motion exercises with mild resistance are important. By moving your shoulder joint in all directions smoothly with small weights, bands or against non-moving objects, one can build muscle tone that will help in preventing injury. Doing nothing at all can lead to frozen shoulder syndrome which may increase pain. Exercise examples: http://www.Aafp.Org/afp/980215ap/980215a.Html.

Strength exercises : Rotator cuff injuries are relatively common and very disabling. Proper strengthening of the muscles supporting the shoulder as well as range of motion exercises are key to rehabilitation. My advise is to see a physical therapist for evaluation. After this a trainer can be useful to guiding you through proper strength exercises. Correct technique is critical..
