Sick baby: A two month baby is too young for cold medicines. You can use nasal saline, bulb suction, and a humidifier. Watch for fever, rapid breathing, or wheezing which necessitate a doctors visit. You can use over the counter cold medicines for yourself.

Nasal saline: For your 2 1/2 month old, i would not recommend an over the counter cough preparation. If the cough is mild and associated with nasal congestion, keeping the nasal passages clear with saline and a gentle suction bulb is helpful. Babies like to breathe through their noses rather than through their mouths. Follow up with your doctor if the cough persists or for worsening symptoms.
