Sounds like : You already checked it out...At age 18 it is difficult to really mess up knee without a good application of external force. Generally if you are able to get up and walk on it you are going to be fine. Expect resolution or continuous improvement over next several days. Bruised area will be sore for a while longer and bruising may "spread" over next few days.

Ice,rest,acebandage : Put ice locally, rest your knee by using crutches if painful to stand and walk, use an ace bandage or knee brace and see your doctor or go to er to have it evaluated xray and treated.

Fell yesterday: Ice the knee, keep it elevated and monitor your range of motion. A simple sprain should improve in a matter of days. If it is not better, or if swelling becomes a prominent feature, see an orthopedic specialist asap.
