See doctor: It all depends on the nature of your pain and problem. If it is plantar fasciitis, a common foot problem, you may escape by getting involved in some exercises, wearing proper footwear and recurring to steroid shots. In other cases, the condition may be such that a surgical intervention will be the only cure. Have your podiatrist take a look and decide what's best for you.

Replacement insoles: Take the insoles out of your shoes and replace them with ones that have more cushioning and support. I like spenco products. The one i recommend most is the spenco polysorb cross-trainer insole. This will give you cushioning at heel strike and help decrease the impact on your knee. It may not have an "immediate" effect though. See an podiatrist if symptoms persist.

Chronic foot pain: Chronic foot pain is often caused by an inefficient primary inflammatory pathway (this type of inflammation detoxifies and repairs injured cells). When this occurs, the immune system recruits another pathway called chronic inflammation. This is the pathway designed to protect cells that are not healing and are still under some type of functional or metabolic stress. This pathway is painful.

Depends on the cause: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy).
