Duration!: Syphilis becomes chronic, and the disease, even if cured has chronic autoimmune sequalae. The reactivity is against the spirochete's debris. See someone in infectious diseases or rheumatology to see if this is the problem!

Not syphilis?: It is unlikely that syphilis symptoms of any kind would continue for 5 years, especially after syphilis has been treated (usually with penicillin shots). So my guess is that whatever symptoms you have, something other than syphilis is the cause. Continue to work with your doctor, or perhaps see an infectious diseases or STD specialist. Good luck!
