What materials are used in partial dentures?

Metal and acrylic: For removable partials which replace missing teeth the metal portion is chrome cobalt alloy, the plastic is acrylic. Some are all acrylic and flexible. There are various formulations of the acrylic by various dental labs. Unusual reactions to these materials are very rare.

Metal Plastic glass: Partial dentures in their various forms are made out acrylic resin for the base and some teeth, out of metal for the framework and clasps, and rests, and porcelain where maximum strength and esthetics are required. The metal is usually some form of chromium cobalt which is strong and light weight. Inexpensive clasps are made of wrought stainless steel wire. The best frameworks are still made out of gold, they can be adjusted far more easily and the clasps don't break but of course they are expensive. Alternatives: There is another alternative to the classic alloy metal/acrylic combination. Clearflex partials are a metal-free alternative that is designed just like a traditional cast metal partial. These new partials are fabricated with an advanced molded nylon material that is durable and impermeable to water, air, or other fluids. The frame and clasp are transparent and partially rigid while the rest seats provide the vertical stability, of which, doctors are looking. These partial dentures offer a variety of benefits: • Increased comfort • Can be relined, repaired & polished chairside • Does not absorb any odors or stains • Holistic, metal-free and contains no Bisphenol A If cost and the quantity of bone are not an issue, then I strongly urge you to consider dental implants. There are also a variety of alternatives where a partial denture can be fixated on 1 or more dental implants with locator attachments.
