What is pyorrhea?

Periodontal disease: Pyorrhea is an advanced type of periodontal disease that causes infection and destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth.

Periodontitis: Periodontitis is inflammation and infection of the ligaments and bones that support the teeth. Left untreated the problem will result in the loss of one's teeth.

Periodontal disease: Pyorrhea was what people used to call gum disease. Bone loss and sore, swollen and bleeding gums.

Gum disease: This is another term for periodontitis or gum disease. It refers to destruction of the structures surrounding the teeth such as gums, bone, and periodontal ligament. It can lead to infection, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss. It is also linked to increased chance of heart disease.
