Hmmm: Adhd & bipolar disorder can co-exist in childhood and adolescence, so having one does not negate having the other. I 'm a little confused about the zoloft, (sertraline) since ssri's can precipitate a manic episode in a person with bpd. I'm curious to see what our psychiatrists have to say.

Bipolar?: Zoloft (sertraline) is not the treatment for bipolar disorder. Clarify your daughter's diagnosis again from her psychiatrist and seek a second opinion from a child and adolescent psychiatrist if the DX of bipolar is maintained. Zoloft (sertraline) as the sole treatment of bipolar is not the best option for your daughter.

Bipolar?: This is not unusual , when i worked in a certain state setting more than 50 percent of adolescent who were diagnosed with adhd , when i saw them i found out they r actually bad. Correct diagnoses require skills , time and. Collateral information

3-5 weeks depends: One should not diagnose based on a medication reaction and there is great danger in overdiagnosing bipolar in adhd children as there is a 70% overlap in symptoms. Before diagnosing bipolar consulting with both a child psychiatrist and a pediatic clinical psychologist who can do some objective psychological tesing is advised. See adhdassessment.Com.
