Under stress?: Has the diagnosis "irritable bowel syndrome" (ibs) every been applied to you? Stool urgency accompanied by abdominal discomfort can be seen with many conditions. However, when symptoms are as intermittent as you describe (in who i presume is otherwise a healthy person without exposure to pathogens/parasites), ibs seems likeliest. Ask your doctor to run some simple blood & stool tests to be sure.
