Try something before: Unfortunately...Some people have pain after dental work. Be it the teeth and the new fillings or the site where the injection was given. Try taking Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) 1hour before your appointment. Perhaps that will help. Don't be afraid to ask your dentist for pain meds for your time after the appointment. If it happens often enuf...Mention it and then you might not have to ask.

You should: Contact your dentist. If appropriate, he may prescribe them for you.

Dental fillings hurt: If you have pain from your teeth that require a narcotic pian killer, you may need more than a pain killer. Your dentist needs to examine your recently filled tooth to see if you have an acute irreversible pulpitis needing a root canal. There is no reason you should need narcotics after a filling. Pain after a filling is transient and can be taken care with over the counter pain medication.
