Size of gallstones: The surgeon was giving a range of size of the stones. Some as small as a piece of sand, and others much larger. The smaller stones can be more dangerous than the bigger stones as the "sand" tends to travel easier and get stuck in the lower duct. The larger stones are sometimes too big to get out of the gallbladder.
