Low TSH hyperthyroid: The low TSH did not cause hyperthyroidism, but is evidence of hyperthyroidism. In consultation with your doctor, the cost for the hyperthyroidism should be determined. That will help delineate which type of treatment is necessary. In very rare cases hyperthyroidism could be evidence of thyroid cancer, and obviously surgery would be warranted. Most other cases are amenable to medical treatment.

Medicine first: I see a lot of hyperthyroidsism! usually anti-thyroid medicine (and possibly beta blockers) is the first step. Most (but not all) people will eventually need definitive treatment.I usually tell people that radioiodine would be my personal choice although I do many operations for this.Operation is best for: pregnancy, maybe for thyroid eye issues, and if you can't put up with brief rad precautions.
