Yes: A "charlie horse" is essentially a cramp in the muscle. During and immediately following this the muscle fibers are tight and sore. When the muscles are tight they are felt to be more susceptable to injury. Taking time to really warm the muscle prior to exercise is felt to be helpful. If you are a runner simply a warm up walk/light jog will suffice. Compression socks- a new favorite of mine.
