Could be: Depending upon the position of the wisdom tooth, there may be a hole and part of the root showing of the tooth infront. This generally should fill in over time. If it feels like part of the tooth is 'still there" this may either be a small piece of bone working through. Give it a few days, then return for a follow up to have it looked at.

Grand Canyon ?: The area of the extraction probably feels like grand canyon. Also you may be having some small bone particles working out if the extraction was very difficult. You will have a large "hole" depression in the area for several months but it should heal over after 4-6 months. If it feels as if there is still part of the tooth present, go back to your dentist and have them check it out.

Not uncommon: A partially exposed horizontal impacted wisdom tooth usually requires removal of bone to expose the tooth and removal of the tooth in multiple pieces. Patients may sometimes feel an irregular edge of bone along the edge of the extraction site which patients sometimes think is part of the tooth that was not removed. Your dentist or surgeon can advise you when you return for your post op visit.
