Stretching, ice, no : Heel pain can be treated with stretching exercises, ice, foot soaks, and not going barefoot, cortisone injections and physical therapy. Custom orthotics can also be used to control foot motion to alleviate pressure on the area.

A few things.: Stretching exercises, such as the runner's stretch are very beneficial. Making sure your shoes are not wore out. Adding arch supports to your existing shoes can also help. You may take an over-the-counter antiinflammatory medicine, but if these measures do not help, see a podiatrist. Medication, injections, physical therapy, splints and other measures are employed.
