TESTIS: Retractile, ectopic and undescended testes are all common issues min pediatric urology. 1/150 boys are born with a testis not in the right place. Those that start down but go up as children are considered retractile. The muscle pulls them up in the groin with examination. Put him in a warm tub sitting indian style and look/feel for them. If they're down then they are likely retractile can be foll.

Yes it can: Need to differentiate. Retractile testis is normal & starts after cremasteric reflex develops, will descend in warm bath or when sitting cross leg. No treatment necessary. Secondary or latent ascent occurs in # of testes previously thought to be fully descended, but were "gliding undescende testes". These have fooled many experts. I c many. These require surgical correction by orchidopexy to fix.

Yes: Ascending testes are rare, but can occur. In this age group, much more common, however, is a retractile testis (a testis which moves back and forth). This is entirely normal. Check for the presence of the testes when your child is relaxed in a warm room or bathtub. If you can fell them be reassured. If not, see your md.
