Depends: If you are having regular leg aching, heaviness, pain or if you have leg discoloration (darkening of the skin) or an ulcer near the ankles you should see your doctor about your venous stasis. Another reason would be if your veins break through the skin and bleed. With none of the above there is no need to have varicose veins checked regularly.

Regularly: If you have not had a full work-up to determine the cause of your venous stasis, then you should see a vein specialist asap, as there may be issues that can be improved or even cured to resolve the problem. If you are currently undergoing tratment and are stable, then you should be followed regularly, perhaps every 6-12 months for monitoring. Any sudden change should be evaluated immediately.

Prevention needed: Need adequate compression and properly applied compression in the form of support hose. Long term: need to address the underlying pathology and take action to help prevent recurrances. Long term: compression stockings, regardless of having surgical intervention or not.

Venous stasis: this depends upon your status. The most important thing is to use a compression stocking. However, more importantly if there is evidence of venous reflux in the superficial system that should be taken care of as venous stasis changes will not resolve but only worsen with time if the reflux point is not addressed. This stasis is secondary to blood and product leaking under the skin

Venous Stasis: The amount of follow ups necessary to treat venous stasis depends on the severity of the stasis. Initially the cause of the stasis will need to be determined and this will require a venous ultrasound. Next a plan of treatment is necessary which could include a closure procedure or medical management. Once the treatment is completed then I see my patients usually once per year or PRN.
