The most common : Cause of heel pain is plantar fascists, though not the only cause. A podiatrist or orthopod can help treat. Stretching, arch supports, ice application, antiinflammatories, sometimes injections are some of the many treatment options one can do.

Stretch: Heel pain responds to rest, ice, stretching, arch supports, better shoes and antiinflammatories. If this doesn't help then seek your favorite podiatrist.

Rest, Ice, until...: Until you see a podiatrist. Initial treatment is rest, ice, anti- inflammatory medication like ibuprofen, and gentle stretching. After a doctor has made sure that nothing is torn, more aggressive stretching can be done. If this fails, orthotics are recommended, and some physical therapy. Stubborn cases may need more intense non- invasive treatment like shock wave therapy.

Combo treatment. : If you have plantar fasciitis, and hurt most with the first few steps in the morning, the more you can do together, the better: #1: supportive shoes. #2: firm inserts or orthotics. #3: oral antiinflammatories (check with your doctor). #4: stretching your foot and calf. #5: icing (10 min at a time). You may also need physical therapy or cortisone injections.

Get diagnosis 1st: Heel pain can originate from a number of different causes. Although plantar fasciits is a common cause of heel pain it is by no means the only one. See an orthopaedic surgeon to get a diagnosis. One in your area can be found at www.Aofas.Org.

Orthotics, stretching: Heel pain can be caused by many things. I would reccmend stretching and icing to see if that helps alleviate the pain. If symptoms improve try an orthotic. If heel pain is ignored and goes untreated it can be very difficult to treat without aggressive management. If you are suffering from heel pain seek medical attention. Depends on the cause: Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as, infection, tendonitis, arthritis, stress fracture, nerve irritation, retained foreign body, bone tumor, or a cyst. Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.
