How long after vascular shunt placement can i begin dialysis?

Depends: With a vascular fistula, you can not use it for 2 to 3 months. While if you have a vascular graft, you can not use it for 1 month.

Depends: Most access surgeons will recommend 1-2 weeks after placement. This is to allow scar to form around the graft so that your risk of bleeding/infection after accessing with needles is lower. In an emergency, it can be used sooner.
