Get treated: The risk of what? Infection? If their is an abscess, then there is already an infection and it needs to be treated? If the absolute neutrophil count (anc) is low, then there is a risk of bacteria spreading in the blood and prophylactic antibiotics should be used. However, an abscess needs to get taken care of. Dental issues are under recognized sources of problems in cancer patients.

Needs to be treated: If you have lymphoma and are being treated, then you may have a decrease ability for your immune system to fight infections. It is important to keep your mouth, gums, and teeth as clean as possible, and that includes elimination of all infections in your mouth. It is important to see your dentist and or oral and maxillofacial surgeon.A.

Chemo?: If you are being treated with chemo therapy or radiation for the lymphoma then you should not see a dentist for invasive treatment until you white blood count has come back up to a normal range to prevent infection.
