Many choices: There are a number of medications that are effective for panic attacks. I suggest you consult with a psychiatrist for guidance.

It's hard to say: Without knowing more of your history, it is difficult to recommend any specific treatments. I try and avoid using xanax (alprazolam) in my patients with panic, i think it can make them worse, especially in the long run. For my patients with symptoms as you describe, I have been successful with many using a medication called nortripyline, which can prevent panic attacks as well as help with pain. Good luck.
