Knee injections: Actually we have injections of a material that is similar to your normal joint fluid that can be done. Although they do not eliminate the need for joint replacement, they can postpone the need for joint replacement in some cases for years.

Weight loss: There is no real surgery that can prevent knee replacement at this point. There are cartilage preservation procedures but they are only helpful with small areas of cartilage loss, not global knee arthritis. The only things that can delay the progression of arthritis are weight loss and moderate exercise.
