Im 36y/o, ttc>9mos. tsh =0.9 three yrs ago, now its 2.5. should i be on a low dose synthroid (thyroxine) to improve fertility? been having hair loss & cold intol

TSH 2.5 is normal: A TSH of 2.5 indicates normal thyroid status, assuming that the pituitary is working normally. An evaluation to check this assumption out might be worthwhile at this point.

Probably: While TSH of 2.5 is 'normal, ' a change for 0.9 to 2.5 may not be. I have seen many women improve fertility with low dose thyroid treatment with this TSH level. Also, it is now recommended that pregnant women keep their TSH below 2.5 during the first trimester because the fetus does not make it's own thyroid until after that time.
