A member asked:

Does bodybuilding/heavyweight (i.e bench press) can cause ear damage/hearing loss?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Breathing: Careful weight lifting of heavy weights will not injure your ears unless you hold your breath and alter the pressure in your lungs and your ears. Heavy weight lifting is much like diving in that sense. If you hold your breath you risk pressure injury to your lungs and ears. Just pay attention to how everything feels, including joints and muscles, so you don't injure anything and risk a long layoff.
