Checkout time?: There is no such thing as "checkout time" at a hospital. Your checkout time is determined by when your doctor writes the order to discharge you. Your doctor can discharge you at midnight if the patient and he/she choose this.

Not uncommon: Unfortunately, if your hospital doctor routinely does their hospital work late at the end of the day or night, as some do, then your hospital discharge is delayed and the hospital can bill for that extra day. You can ask the nurse to contact your doctor to come in earlier to avoid the extra hospital day, or you may be able to ask the hospital if they can waive the extra day due to the late doctor.
