A member asked:

After a hangnail, how do you get rid of the swelling?

Treat the nail: Removing a hangnail causes trauma, which can lead to infection. Try using a topical antibiotic, such as neosporin or polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin). That should help. If not, visit a podiatrist for a toenail or dermatologist for a fingernail.

Treat: The infection. If infection is resolved, swelling will go down with time.
