Usually painful: A ruptured ear drum is usually caused by trauma, either direct like pushing a qtip through or pressure related...You got slapped right over the ear and the pressure caused the drum to pop. It can also rupture from infected fluid underneath. Spontaneous rupture can also occur, no warning. Pts often describe a hollow, echoing feelings after rupture. Hearing loss can also occur. See you doctor!

Pain, bleeding,airin: Pain with trace bleeding and hearing loss via air conduction are the most common initial symptoms. However, it can be nearly a symptomatic from chronic infection. If you have any concerns, see an ENT for an evaluation.
