Corneal oxygen: Pressure patching an eye with a corneal abrasion restricts the movement of the eye under the patch, while placing the capillary rich palpebral conjunctiva adjacent to the avascular cornea. Thus the patch improves healing of the corneal epithelium. Patching should never be used if infection is present, or the nature of injury suggests bacterial or fungal keratitis. Antibiotics should be used.
