Air mattress: Patients who have decubitus ulcers can benefit from low air loss , dolphin or clinitron beds which can reduce the applied pressure on the wound and help in the healing process.

Pressure reduction: Unless the patient can hover in the air, the goal of all these pressure support surfaces is to reduce pressure tot he tissues. Even so, the patient should do all they can to keep the area that has the sore free from any pressure. Changing position every 2 hours minimizes the chance of developing a new tissue injury. It is not so much the airbed but keeping pressure away from the injured area.
