After anesthesia, : There are several thresholds that need to be crossed. First, the anesthetic has to wear off. Second, your pain needs to be managed. Third, any side effects or complications like nausea need to be managed. Your friend should stay in the recovery room until everything is stabilized and she is ready for transfer.

See below: All patients have a varied response to anesthesia and other medications. This plus the addition of narcotics for pain relief can make patients really sleepy after an operation. If there is a problem the pacu staff would let the family know.
