Maybe: A long incision may be difficult to completely cover with regional anesthesia. Discuss the option with the anesthesiologist doing the blocks or epidural to see if it is a viable for you.

Not really: It is possible but probably not practical. Even when we perform specialized nerve blocks for mastectomies, we find they are very effective for pain relief after surgery but we still use general anesthesia for the surgery.

No: The regional anesthesia is great for post-operative pain control, but you are going to want a general for the operation itself.
