Mucinex, (guaifenesin) MD: Thick phlegm can be thinned out with something like a mucinex, (guaifenesin) which can be found at most drug stores. However, if this is a chronic problem, you should visit an md to determine what the root cause of the phlegm is: reflux, allergies, post-nasal drip, or lung issues. Productive cough is a particular symptom that is concerning. Long term treatment of the originating problem will help you long-term.
