How could i know if a finger is dislocated or sprained?

See a hand doc: A dislocation is not subtle. There is considerable pain, deformity, stiffness and dysfunction. A sprain will typically result only in pain, swelling, and stiffness and should improve over time. A good examination and an xray can easily distinguish between the two.
