A member asked:

How to tell the difference between a torn acl and a hyperextended knee?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MRI: This may be very difficult for the layperson. Typically an acl rupture will be associated with a 'pop' in the knee and swelling, but not always. A physical exam is very important and an MRI is usually obtained if clinical suspicion is high.
