Uterine lining: The uterine lining is stimulated by estrogen production from the ovaries, and since the estrogen production is not constant, especially after late 30's, any drop in estrogen will cause some bleeding. If an ultrasound found a thickened uterine lining, at age 42, you are probably not pregnant, but just going thorough "pre-menopause". See your gyn for testing and an exam.
