A member asked:

Bleeding for 1 year. have pcos. ultrasound showed thick endometrial lining of 9.3mm. not well defined lower portion of uterus stated. everything else looks normal. had smear done recently- all clear. ca125 blood test- all clear. what could be wrong?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) causes sustained estrogen production with very infrequent actual ovulation, leading to prolonged intervals where the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is thickened. See your GYN physician for guidance, as he/she may decide to biopsy the endometrium. Ask your GYN about low does oral bcp's, the preferred treatment for PCOS.
